September visit

We are too late to go this year but would like some advice as to where to stay next September.

In May 2010 we stayed in Kranska Gora and we loved it. This the type of scenery we enjoy but we are unsure where to stay next time that meets the same criteria.

We are a couple in our 50's so we want some nightlife but not wild and full of youngsters. We love walking, are there easy to moderate walks in the area.

Where would anyone recommend for a September break looking at possibly two centres as we will be there for 2 weeks.

You will probably love Bohinj or Bovec. Also Logarska Valley can be a good choice.

There are also some very nice but very different options in the NE part of Slovenia. If you stay at one of the spas (Terme Olimia is a magnificent choice for example), you can walk around the hilly wine-growing area.

Also, you can stay at Piran and walk to Portoroz, Secovlje, Fiesa, Strunjan, ... The scenery is completely different though.

Thank you for this information.

On our last visit when we stayed at Kranska Gora we went to Bohinj and then had a week in Piran so we will give these a miss next time.

Husband would like a week in Bled and is now thinking possibly late May or June as hopefully it will be livelier and warmer. He also thinks there will be more in the way of bars and restaurants open.

Would Bovec one week and Bled the next fit the bill better for May/June?

Bled & Bovec are a very good combination provided that the weather is reasonably good. If I were you, I'd check the weather report first. You may enjoy 2 weeks of wonderful spring/summer or suffer 2 weeks of constant rain and clouds. (See the history at some of the weather sites. This year we had a marvelous June for example. Several years before my week in July at Bled was almost ruined by constant rain.)

Bled is much more touristy and you will have a huge choice of bars/inns/restaurant//hotels/spas there.
