Train from Rome to Ljubljana

Would like to train it from Rome to join a tour in Ljubljana in September 2013, travel agent is having problems so has anyone done this train - preferably in the day. Also what days the train/trains run on this route. We finish in Rome on 15 Sept and start Ljubljana tour 18 September.

It's probably too complicated. If you do decide to use the train to Trieste/Venice, then take one of the cheaper shuttles to Ljubljana (DRD or GoOpti for example).

It is much better and possibly cheaper to fly (9/15: AlItalia 60 EUR to Trieste, Easyjet 35 EUR to Venice).
