Currency

Hey all.

Just wondered, what currency would be best to take with me to Hungary? I'm on my way to Budapest next Thursday

Is the forint still used primarily, or would the Euro be better ?

Many thanks,

Paul

The short answer is take your Pounds to Budapest and convert them there to Forint. See the Top Question to the right on local currency.

The Euro is no more used in Hungary than in Bristol.

Thanks guys, I missed the article to the right.

Would you recommend changing ALL of my money up prior to Hungary, or getting money out there ?

What would give me the best rate ?

Many thanks, Paul

Don't change any of your money until you get to B-pest. As for the best deal, well that is something that can cause a multiple post discussion. Check that Top Question again for other info.

Are you taking cash - a risk always. There is no shortage of ATMs in Bpest.

There were much better exchange rates last week when I was there than I got here. 345-355 as opposed to 330 to the pound here.

Note that at this time there are also fluctuations day-to-day and week-to-week that may be greater than the difference between exchange venues...onlu problem, of course, is being able to predict the future.

We are going for the weekend on Friday and I ordered HUFs from local Post Office for convenience, had to pay on ordering and picked them up on Monday, Rate was 308 HUF to £ which from above was pretty poor! However as it is a short trip it is one less thing to have to do when there, and using my local Post Office was very convenient. Your choice depending on what is most important for you!

Exactly right...for what it's worth, the rate today in Budapest at the Northline currency appears to be 338 ... about a 10% difference as the total cost of the convenience...will they buy them back?
