This is not really a trip report rather just a few comments on our recent very enjoyable visit to a surprisingly warm Budapest.
Very well looked after at the Corinthia Grand Royal hotel which we found well located and very convenient. Staff were excellent. For any guests staying, they should take advantage of a most informative tour of the hotel conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays by Tibor who is a mine of information.
A travel pass of 24/72/ 1 week was definitely worthwhile it made travelling around the city so easy.
Restaurants: ate at Bock, Cafe Bouchon, 21 Magyar Vendeglo and Klassz. All were good but the most enjoyable were definitely Klassz and Cafe Bouchon. In fact our last lunch at Klassz was particularly good - some lovely soup and some excellent foie gras perfectly paired with a glass of Concubina feher.
Apart from the obvious sites and attractions we unexpectedly came across a couple of very worthwhile activities: The National Bank museum which has an excellent display and history of currencies and the Music History Museum in Buda, a quite outstanding exhibition celebrating the composer Liszt.
We also enjoyed three performances at the Opera House and one at the Palace of Arts. Although patrons were generally smartly attired, ties were certainly not the order of the day!Edited: 26 March 2012, 23:19
