Budapest Itinerary

Hi,

We are planning to visit central europe in August, and will have one and a half days in Budapest (its a pity that we have so little time there, but that's all that we could manage in our itinerary).

Can you please suggest what should we do during these one and a half days, and how do we go about doing it - modes of transport etc. We will have our two year old son with us.

Thanks in advance.

For the half day, you can take a walk across the Chain bridge (if you're on the Pest side), take the Funicular up to the Castle Hill. You can easily spend 3 to 4 hours up there and enjoy some very nice views. For the full day, you have a large number of choices: the Market Hall, the Danube embankment, St. Stephen Basilica, Vaci and Andrassy utca, Hero Square and Szechenyi Bath. You can take tram No.2 from the Parliament to the Market Hall, there are nice views of the Danube along the way. The metro is also pretty easy to use.

Thanks a lot - this is very useful.

Also, any suggestions on which part of town we should be staying at? Any hotel recommendations?

We stayed in an apartment near St. Stephen Basilica which is very central. You can walk easily to the Chain Bridge and the Parliament. The area is very safe. The apartment has a loft which I think is not child proof, so make sure to keep your young one off the loft. http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27069.
