Short break in Budapest...What to do??

Hi all,

My partner and I are visiting Budapest in October for 3 days. We are not there long and I would really like to know what things we should definitely do/see?

Any help would be great!

Budapest is a great city and you'll enjoy walking around.

A few recommendations:

1. Walk along the Danube Promenade. Don't miss the view by taking this walk at night when everything is lit up!

2. Hero's Square

3. Vaci Utca - a very touristy pedestrian street with lots of shops. Don't buy things here if you can avoid it as everything is more expensive, but it is fun to walk down this street and window shop,

4. Gerbeaud Cukraszda - a beautiful older pastry shop (although expensive because of tourists) with outdoor seating as well. Right off the Danube Promenade near Vaci Utca pedestrian street.

5. Andrassy ut - a beautiful wide boulevard with lots of great restaurants, cafes, and shops.

6. Danube cruise

7. Visit to Parliament

8. The Castle Hill area on Buda ... beautiful area with spectacular views looking down on the Danube and Pest.

Hope you have a great stay!

Do go on a cruise, but not with dinner, you can eat much better on dry land.

If you do a search on 'must see' on the forum, you will find plenty of posts on this subject.

To a huge extent it depends on your personal interests. For example, if you love art, go to the National Gallery If you are interested in history, the Terror Museum is a must (get an audio guide)..

Do go up into the Var (Castle District), it is best at dusk, when the city is lighting up, and most of the tourists have gone.

Make sure you find time for coffee and cake at one of the gorgeous coffee houses.

I can recommend the New York Coffee House and the one inside the Alexandra shopping centre. I think they are both situated on Andrassy.

I would also recommend one of my personal favorites for coffee and pastries:

Royal Kavehaz, next to the Corinthia Grand Hotel. Very nice place, nice atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating, delicious pastries and coffee.
