changing of the guard

Hi all,

Only a week to go until we travel to Budapest for the first time & we cannot wait.

Just wanted to know what time(s) each day they change the guard - thanks in advance.

Up in front of the castle next to the funicular station. I'd guess noon.

Are you sure you are not confusing Budapest with London?

Pjk you were right and johnfarago very nice find yes it is pretty cool

And to JasonandLynz Great question you may have just started a whole new thing to do in Budapest now that people are aware of this.

I certainly was not but will definitely make a point to stop and see it next time in town.

The changing of the guard happens daily. They get to their post about 09:00 each week day. But, it is not a disciplined ritual in my opinion, and very much depends if a dignitary is in town visiting the building. I would NOT make a special trip into the castle to see this. If you happen to be there, it's something to see.....

Very nice pictures Thank you for sharing and by the looks of them and the earlier video it does look like a very formal disciplined ritual.

Something I WOULD make a special trip into the castle to see just like the OP plans to do.

I reread my post, and I need to be more clear. I see the early morning, initial ritual most summer mornings. What I meant by "not disciplined" is that the guards often look a each other and speak - which is guard ritual is absolutely forbidden. It's disappointing to me since this posting is one of the tops for the unit.

On some days, there is a tour bus of folks watching the initial presentation. They take pictures and see, to enjoy it. But again, it does not have the intensity or discipline of those you see in Beijing, Arlington, London, Etc.

Enjoy.

Happened to be passing through yesterday and today around noon and the changing of the guard was taking place both days,so it looks like it is a daily event.

Coming back later today there was some activity going on in the square with workmen tacking a red carpet to the cobblestones,so there must be some VIP visiting later today or tomorrow. We asked one of the many Police Officers who were standing around who they were expecting, but just got a blank look in reply.

If you want to know the time, don't ask a Hungarian Policeman!
