Where to eat on our first evening near Casati Hotel

We are taking our first trip to Budapest next week and are looking forward to exploring the city. However, our flight is not due to land until 7pm on the Friday evening and so by the time we collect our luggage, get to our hotel and freshen up after the journey, it's probably likely to be around 8.30 - 9pm by the time we set out.

So, can anyone recommend a reasonable restaurant for our first evening please? We probably won't want a large, expensive meal after travelling and don't want to get lost trying to find our way back to the hotel after diner, so somewhere within about 10 minutes easy walk would be ideal. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You have many good choices, but if it were me I'd select among three: Out your front door, take a right and continue to the end of the street at Nagymezo utca (about 2 blocks depending on what you count as a block ... the streets are different on the right from on the left), at Nagymezo, turn left without crossing the wide street and right there at the corner is Ket Szerecsen, a low key very pleasant restaurant.

Or out the door, turn right briefly to the corner on your left and turn left onto Hajos utca, a couple of blocks (past Nagymezo, in the next block), to Andrassy; then right about a couple of blocks to #47, Klassz. Although it's a very popular place, meals there can be rather lowkey and paced pleasantly, wine selection is excellent, food is wonderful. No reservations, but by 9:00 there is likely to be a table. If not, continue walking a short ways to the corner, Liszt Ferenc ter and turn right. At the next corner (Paulay Ede, the same street that your hotel is on,three blocks back down to your right), on your right is Menza, a restaurant I think has been greatly over-rated but that may nevertheless be exactly what you are looking for as an easy-going place to unwind and have a solid meal with a Hungarian menu, very close to the hotel ... To head home, go out the front door, take a riught a few feet to the corner and then a right onto Paulay Ede -- it is not a through street for cars, but you can walk on it without a problem and continue across Nagymezo on a couple of blocks to your hotel.

Or if you'd rather not try Menza after looking into it, simply continue to the corner, right on Paulay Ede, one block and across the street (Nagymezo) on the right you are back at Ket Szerecsen again.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll check the reviews before we decide which one to try.
