Interested in going to Budapest for a 10 night holiday.

Me and my girlfriend want to visit Budapest in July and have set aside 10 days for holidays. My question is do you think its a good idea to spend the whole holiday in Budapest. If not, how many days do you think we should stay there for? also where else should we spend the remaining days of the holidays. Any travel links on how to get to the suggested places would also be appreciated.

Thanks :)

We will be going to Budapest this fall for our fourth, ten-day trip. We never seem to run out of things to do, both old and new things, and we usually do a few day trips while there- Eger and Szentendre, for example.

Hello LukeJarvis93

I believe oddone123 is so very correct in here question.

Not knowing your likes and wants from your travels it is almost impossible to answer your question with any usefulness. It really depends entirely on you and your girls travels styles and how deeply you enjoy delving into a place.

Do you just wish to skim the highlights at a breakneck pace or do you like to really settle in and explore a city perhaps sit in a café, soak in the arts, music and culture, explore the often unbeaten paths that are often sadly overlooked by most tourists.

Depending on your style and wishes you may find 10 days may be too short a time (or way too much).

As mentioned above let us know what sort of holiday you two usually prefer and what your likes and wants are. Then we will all do our very best to help you decide whether 10 days is too much too little or maybe just right.

Best

A 3 night stay in Vienna ? only 3 hours away by train.

Overnight stay in Pecs, Eger or Sopron (on the way to Vienna) ?

There is plenty to see in Bpest though, try and get hold of a copy of Only in Budapest by Duncan Smith: some of the public transport info is out of date, but it gives an idea of what there is to see. You could also spend a day walking in the Buda hills, if that floats your boat.

The Palotajatekok is on in July in Visegrad- it's about an hour away from Budapest. It's a 3 day long medieval fair with a large market, re-enactments, etc. It's really good for a day out, not just for families.I went 2 years ago and really enjoyed it, although it was in the middle of the heatwave, with about 39 degrees C...
