Budapest is a tiny city ... most hotels are in districts V and VII, stay central on the Pest side of the river and you won't go too far wrong, you'll be a 20 min walk from home wherever you end up for the night.

District 5,6 or 7... I'd suggest you get an apartment, they are larger and cheaper than hotel rooms. Of course depends on how many of you are traveling and your own preferences.

Also Budapest is in no way tiny, its over twice the size of Raleigh, but has a great public transport system that makes it easy to get from A to B.

Budapest has five times the population of Raleigh (just checked on Wiki !)) ...

But it IS small, feels small compared to the likes of London or Paris. You can walk across town, the extremes of tourist interest, in well under an hour.

Public transport is brilliant but it dies a death between 11 pm and midnight ... night buses follow their own unique routes, good but you need to download their timetables and route maps to use them ... most tourists never need to bother as they can just walk back to their hotels.
