Traveling from Budapest to Prague

What is the best mode of transportation between the two cities. I went on Rail Europe and they are quoting $190 for 1st class ticket. Is there a discount site for train tickets? Is bus a good option? Where can I find out about bus ticket price and schedule?

Did you check other classes? Trust me, nothing wrong with second. Also, have you checked the overnight sleeper train? You should be able to find tickets for significantly less than the price you were quoted.

NEVER use a rail ticket reseller in Europe, they will rip you off: always go go the local rail company.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I will go to the local train web site to purchase the train tickets. They do cost a lot less than the ones offered by Rail Europe.

There is a bit of misinformation here, probably provided unwittingly.

Cost from €19 with MÁV, or €35 first class, but it is almost exactly the same as second so save your money. europetrainsguide.com/Advice/How-to-Buy-Trai…

If you want first-class comfort, use the bus www.studentagency.eu €22 DO NOT use the link provided in response no. 2 above - that is the site of a Hungarian imposter.

And to repeat: NEVER use Rail Europe/Czech-Transport.com/Eurail or other rip-off resellers, or you will pay a lot more than you should. In the vast majority of cases ONLY use the websites of the national rail company in which your journey starts.

Thank you GCEK. The Europe Trains Guide is a wonderful web site. I ended up ordering tickets from MAV directly.
