On place for traditional Slovak food, try Slovak Pub on Obchodná street. This is a pedestrian street, not far from the Old Town. There are also quite a few restaurants in Old Town itself to try.

I tried a good selection of local food and beer brewed on site at Richtar Jakub on Moskovska. Very inexpensive as well.

Prasna Basta is an amazing mid-range place - good staff, excellent food, cosy atmosphere.

Slovak Pub is a good shout, but be prepared for slow service... the food isn't as good as Prasna Basta but it's cheaper, so you get what you pay for. It has a sister restaurant (the Flagship, Nam SNP) which offers the same menu but is quite grand, in a beer-hall sort of way.

you will find lots of cabbage and potatoes. Halušky is similar to Gnocchi. it's a dumpling. We had different versions of cabbage soup, some with bacon that were good. You will also find a lot of fish and chicken dishes with different sauces. Pork is also prevalent but not much beef. When I was there in Sept. 2009 for a week, we only ate in traditional Slovak restaurants and never had bad food. Most of the restaurants had menus in 3 or 4 languages (Slovak, English, German, Hungarian or Russian) depending on where they were located.

1st craft brewery in Bratislava:

Minipivovar Richtar Jakub (http://www.richtarjakub.sk).

This is the best beer place in this town! They have some good food also.
