bratislava to vienna by train

Firstly is the train the best way to travel or is the bus just as good.

If going by train, is it from Hlavna stanica and to which station in vienna. We are going in Dec and i assume there are no boats doing the journey at that time of year. Thank you in advance.

All trains go to Sudbahnhof in Vienna. They leave from both Bratislava Hlavna Stanica and from Bratislava Petrzalka - use a planner such as bahn.de to check.

Train is cheaper if you are making a return trip - about 11 Euro return, or 14 Euro including a day's public transport in Vienna. Coach is about 8 or 9 Euro each way I think.

The landscape is flat in parts but I never found the journey boring.

Oh I should have asked my question here instead of starting a new thread... May I ask if I can buy that ticket in the Bratislava Tourist Information Office in the old town?

I was told that there is only one counter at the central station and I don't enjoy the idea of having to queue up there for god-knows-how-long... I would prefer to buy the ticket in advance if possible...

Thanks,

Bosco

I answered in your topic, however, it's not true that there's only one counter at hlavna stanica (central station). There are more counters.

There is no ferry, but there is a hydrofoil, which isn't recommendable at any time of the year. The train is cheaper, quicker, more comfortable, and has better views.

In any case I don't think the hydrofoil runs in the winter.
