Tallin Monday-Thursday during the summer

Hello All,

I'll be in Tallinn for 4 full days during the week in the summer and was wondering if anyone could recommend some activities. I enjoy taking in culture, old buildings and architecture, open to a museum or two, touring the countryside, and sampling of nightlife. I'm a 26yo male from the US and traveling this part of my trip on my own. I am not opposed to renting a car if it will offer me a better experience. I'm having a difficult time putting together a rough itinerary so could use some assistance if anyone would be willing to help out.

Thank you!

Suggest to rent a bike 1-2 days and stroll:

North of Tallinn and seaside - TV tower with good view. Pirita Convent and Estonian War Museum or Viimsi Open Air museum. Distance 30-40 km.

Lunch at Pirita

West of Tallinn - Open air museum/Zoo, Kalamaja area and Seaplane harbor as museum, Tabasalu cliff and nature trail. 30-40 km cycling.

1-day hiking to Paldiski (former Soviet military down) and nice cliffs and seaside nature to hike. 15 km of walks. Going there and back by train (2 x 4 EUR)

Thank you for your reply! I never even considered doing a biking excursion. This idea is certainly intriguing. I will do more research on your recommendations. What about events and so forth going on in the city during the week in the summer? Is there much going on or is it mainly quiet during the week days? I'm sure there's much going on on the weekends but unfortunately I'll be gone by then. Also, would a day trip to Riga be possible/worthwhile if I rented a car and if not perhaps 1 overnight?

Thanks so much for your insight!

Citybike himself is handy for bike tours. I hear good things about his work.

I'd like to add that I've never met Mr Citybike, have never taken any of his tours, and have often disagreed with him in this forum.

And here's his link: http://www.citybike.ee/

An option, better for an overnight, is to go to the island of Saaremaa. There's a fantastic castle with a museum in Kuressaare.

If it's warm, then definitely take a day trip to Pärnu. The crowds having summer vocation are there. Depending on the dates but many cultural events taking place in summer time in Pärnu, included a film festival of documentaries.. http://www.chaplin.ee/filmfestival/

The beach is nice in Pärnu and crowded on sunny days. You can easily reach Pärnu by bus and it's an easily walkable town. Riga is too far away for such a short trip though.
