Day Trip to Vilnius from Riga

Dear Forum,

I am spending several days in Riga during March. I was interested in visiting Vilnius for a day. What would be the best way to get to Vilnius. Are there any organised day tours?

Regards,

Monty

Hi, the distance is 300 km. Some 4h one way by bus. Of course we can make it in one day. There should be one or two early morning departures to Vilnius from the Riga Bus Station.

There are a couple of departures by the Latvian air carrier aibBaltic to Vilnius. Always worth to check twice, as air traffic seems to be hit by the crisis somewhat more than other transports.

Visit www.1188.lv, an enquiry website, choose ENG, choose Intercity buses or Air traffic under Traffic.

Happy stay in Riga!

Hi, montyoz!

Unless you go there by plane, I would recommend spend a night in Vilnius to see more.

For bus tickets check website of Eurolines (they offer hotel packages too) and of Ecolines:

City breaks to Vilnius are offered by many travel agencies, as Impro for example. More information here:

I agree with the previous post - if you go by bus spend the nihgt in Vilnius. Otherwise, it can become a quite tiring experience. I've done such day trips when I was younger and even at that time it was really tiring:-)

Enjoy Vilnius, it is a nice city!

Thanks for all the reponses and feedback. I wonder if a trip to Šiauliai and hill of crosses would be a better option.

I agree with all of the above. Vilnius takes at least 3 days to see and is also a great centre point for doing other stuff. My advice would be to stay in Latvia this time and go back to Lithuania and spend more time there to do it the justice it deserves. The hill of crosses can also be done as a day trip from Kaunas.
