Can foreigners have bank account in latvia?

Can foreigners have bankaccounts in Latvia? If so, how do you open the account? I need it to transfer money from my home country to/from Latvia.

Suggestions for a good bank?

best wishes,

County Donegal...

Normally you can have an bank account in every country you want..be sure too have proper ID and be prepared that some banks ask for a deposit before open an account for you.

Also check the many international banks Riga (Nordea, danske bank) they might be more friendly against non-citizens. (But dont know -so dont hang me :)

The largest (most reliable?) banks in Latvia are: Swedbank http://www.swedbank.lv/eng/index.php , Parex Banka http://www.parex.ru/ru/international/ , DnB Nord Banka http://www.dnbnord.lv/en/ , Latvijas Hipotēku un Zemes Banka http://www.hipo.lv/en , SEB Banka http://www.seb.lv/en/private/ . Check their websites for more information. Amount of non resident deposits in Latvian banks traditionally is high- so account opening should be easy.
