Jelgava Ice Festival

Hi,

We're visiting Riga for 2 days on Firday 7th and Sat 8th February. We plan to spend most of the time seeing Riga, with perhaps a bit of beach time ;) in Jurmala on the Saturday.

However, we're particularly interested in visiting the Ice Sculpture Festival in Jelgava on the Friday evening. So a few questions about transport:

What is the best way of getting there? From what I understand we can either catch a train or take a minibus. Is one of these a much better option?

The train station looks to be quite a long way from the Ice Sculpture park. Where do the minibuses go to?

Will we have any problems getting back?

What time should we be leaving Riga if we want to get to the festival for 18:00?

Many thanks,

Ed.

Hi, great idea of visiting this festival! It's definitely worth it. Despite the bus station is closer to the venue- "Uzvaras parks" and you can reach it by foot, I would recommend to use the train for getting there, because the minibusses may be full at that time.

After getting out from train in Jelgava, look for the bus Nr 22- the stop is about 50 m in front of station ("Dzelzceļa stacija"). Get out at the stop "Tirgus" or "Larelini" (the ice sculpture venue is located in between), the ride takes about 10 minutes.

Or take the 1st bus going to the center (I think, they all do it), get out at the "Lielā iela" and take a short walk (about 15 min) to "Uzvaras parks". Or take a taxi from the train station.

Two last trains depart from Jelgava to Riga at 21:26 and 22:30.

For 18:00 in Uzvaras parks you should leave Riga ("Rīga pasažieru") at 16:44, reaching Jelgava at 17:33.
