There are a lot of little shops in the older part of the town centre (mostly now pedestrianised) and on both sides of the river.

If it's supermarkets you are after there are several!

Yes there are small shops to nosey around but no big shopping centres or big department stores. Nothing exciting!

You can get the train to Faro which is a nice trip and not too far, I think about 30 mins.

You can also get the train to San Antonio . It takes about 30 mins as well and then get ferry to Spain which takes about 10 mins. There are a lot of small shops there. No big department stores. Both train and ferry cost very little. I think the ferry runs every 30 mins.

Even though Tavira is very cheap, we found San Antonio even cheaper for a cup of coffee.

you can also get a bus from Tavira,( bus station in town near river )to Faro. Don't go to Faro shopping on Saturday afternoon as most of the shops close at midday!

There aren't really many shopping opportunities in Tavira and to be honest we didn't go into many. There are a few shops selling tacky tourist stuff, some clothes and shoe shops (but not necessarily up to date lines!), the odd ethnic type stores and quite a few selling produce. The old fish market which now houses shops and cafes is worth a browse around.
