This is an excellent road with some incredible views of banks peninsular. At the hilltop you have a choice of going straight into Akaroa or taking the road around the summit to enter Akaro from the other side. This is a sealed road but slightly more twisty. Stop at Little River for a coffee and a brouse. I think they have the worlds best cheese cake. You can easily make a full day out of this excursion, or even justify an overnight. There are harbour cruises etc, wineries and a cheese factory to visit. If it's a fine sunny sunday watch out for high speed motorcyclists.
