Suggested activities on Picton area

Before walking the Queen Charlotte Track in January, we will spend 4-5 nights in Picton. We've already 'done' the Nelson area and have done a whale-watch trip in Kaikoura. We don't need an activity every day. Our interests are eclectic and we will have no car. We should get a good workout on the track. Any suggestions appreciated.

You might want to think about a day, perhaps 2, somwhere else. Picton is a beautiful spot, but it's a small but very busy village. The first thing that springs to mind is a boat trip but you will get that to the end of the track. You are less than an hour away from some of NZ's best wine but I don't know what tours are available. You could have a day in Wellington, or go kayacking.

Hi a fishing trip is a good day out and there is a good trip called the 'mail boat' which delivers mail in and around the Sounds I have heard it is really quite interesting and a good day out.

Blenheim vineyard tours would be handy too for you.

Picton is small you can easily pick up a rental car and take a drive around the surrounding coves and bays or take the coastal pacific train for a return day trip further south.

Have a lovely time.
