What time to board when catxhing the 8 am Bluebridge ferry

Thanks ro everyone's advice I have decided to take the Bluebridge ferry and they say they like you there an hour before. Is this really necessary as it wil mean a very early start?

Thankyou

Look, I know its early, but I'd say get up at silly o'clock, board, relax and enjoy the crossing.

This is what the company says about check-in times. If you want to take the risk and arrive after this and possibly be denied boarding, that's your call.

bluebridge.co.nz/cook-strait-ferry-bookings-… times

"Check in times

Passengers with a vehicle - 1 hour prior to the scheduled departure time.

Foot Passengers - 45 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

Please note - If you report after the check in time you may be denied passage and your reservation allocated to another person - please confirm departure times when booking travel."

The critical thing is whether you have a vehicle. With a car/ campervan you have to join a queue that determines when you actually board, so it is not as simple as turning up an hour early & sitting on the boat for an hour. You may spend most of that hour sitting in your car. Walk-on passengers have a better choice of seats in the limited bar space. Don't cut it too late.

If everyone left it late it would hold everyone up. Personally it would be great to see the times enforced.

We've done the crossing several times, and we are mostly there an hour before, however that being said, on a couple of occasions we were there 15 minutes before boarding (due to police blocks pulling over everyone) and we still got on. it just meant we spent less time in the queue :-)
