Safe to leave resort at night???

Just wondering what it's like when leaving the resort. I am staying at Club Amigo Ancon, and I've heard that it's a lot of older people on the resort... does anyone have any suggestions for younger people (in our 20's) ? Is it okay to leave the resort at night? / Is it expensive. It would be nice to get out and do something one night during our stay! Any advice would be great ;)

Thx!

Very safe around that area and in Trindad itself. When I was there last there were more tourists there than Cubans.

Lots to see and do in the City of Trinidad, during the day a shuttle bus runs between the resorts and the City (2 CUC per person for a round trip) not sure how much for a taxi back at night but probably not a lot - you can always arrange something through your resort.

From our experience it is very safe, you get the odd person wanting to seel you something, offer you a taxi, buggy ride or older women wanting soap but not much else.

Lots of great restaurants in town, we did not get a chance to check out the nightlife.

Trinidad , is a safe town at night ... very few hustlers around.. Not much to do thou at night except the Cave , which is a disco ( ask locals when it is open ) . Casa Musica , which is outdoors besides the old church in the centre ( live different bands playing every night. ) where you can dance and drink ! Then there is a disco on the top of the stairs , after the band quits ! Taxi's are about 10 CUC to and from resort !

Thanks everyone!

I heard about the Disco in the Cave! It sounds pretty neat, has anyone been there?

I was there in May 2012, and it was really great on both Saturday and Sunday nights. As said earlier too, Casa de la Musica is nice too, and taxi is approx.10cuc to and from Playa Ancon/ Trinidad. No worries about safety, just use common sense.

Have a great time

I haven't been to it in ages , but it is really great when they turn the lights out about midnight and the BATS start to fly around everyones heads !!!!!!!!! Just kidding ! ;) They say the cave was craved out by hand .. no machinery .. It's beautiful ( a must see disco... and make sure you take a look at the stairs for the DJ's booth ... sure he gets offer alot of drinks when he comes down, but wise enough not to drink them, if he has to go back to the booth !

Hi! No problems leaving the resort at night. A cab or coco taxi is cheap, although after 11pm they are harder to find.

There is actually about 3 or 4 different places with live music every night.

The set of stairs next to the cathedral (Casa de la Musica) has live music and lots of people out dancing every day of the week. It's open air, free to go. Down the street from these steps about 3 doors, is Palenque de los Congos Reales, a little bar that sometimes costs $1 - 2 CUC as an entrance fee, and they have an afro-Cuban show each night around 10 pm.

Ruinas del Seguarte as well as the Teatro Brunet ruins have music sporadically throughout the week too.

The cave disco is pretty awesome. Lots of locals and self cater tourists. It's more happening on the weekends. Watch your step if you walk there - it's dark and steep.

Have fun :)

"Safe to leave resort at night??? " Not really - always the danger of falling in love with a local.

As per above - heaps of music venues - follow your ears. The nightly free (10pm?) show at Plaza Mayor pre the disco is always worth it to watch Cubans who can dance and tourists who can't.

Most of the resort goers seem to leave even before this is finished - presumedly to catch a shuttle bus?
