Playa Costa verde or Sol Rio De Luna Mares ...which one
Save

Torn between the 2 and looking for advice. My husband and I are travelling with my 5 year old grandson. Both resort seem about the same size. I read that PCV to get to the ocean you have to go over a swamp area and mosquitos are bad. I like a resort that is relatively close to the ocean and has good shade. We usually spend the morning at the beach and after lunch the pool.....again looking for shade. My grandson views us as his play mates so doesn’t need a kids club and he’s also a very good swimmer...no need for the kids pool.

Thanks

I would chose the Playa Costa Verde every time myself. It is true that you have to cross a bridge over an eco area to reach the beach but the mosquitoes are no worse at the PCV than at Luna y Mares.

I haven't been to Sol, but would recommend PCV. We have been twice with our son, first time when he was 4 and then this year at 5 and have already booked to go back again next year. He loves it, especially the pool. The staff are amazing with the kids. He has never been to the kids club, but regularly joins in with the kids games they have every day next to the pool and loved the mini disco every night.

My first choice was PVC until I read the latest reviews about mosquitoes. Normally I don’t have a problem with mosquitoes in Cuba. I take a spray and don’t sit out in the evening. I’m not sure whether the mosquitoes are worse this time because of the hurricane. That’s what is putting me off the resort. We were booked to go to Cayo Coco but our trip was just cancelled as the resort is not yet up and running. I do appreciate everyone’s input.

Before our trip to PCV in July the reviews were all reporting how bad the mozzies were, but they actually weren't that bad when we got there. There were a couple of particularly bad nights towards the end of our stay, but otherwise ok. We all (2 adults and a 5 year old) used Avon Skin So Soft and mozzie bands, my husband got a fair few bites, but I only had a couple as did our son.

Thanks Amanda. I’m wondering if all theses reports of bites are as a result of the hurricane. I have a friend who recently returned from Cuba and he said that he’s never seen so many flies and his wife’s legs were covered in sand flea bites. This was Jibacoa. I’m going to keep reading reviews. I had narrowed it down to a resort in Varadero and PCV. I’m now thinking I may go to Punta Cana. Still looking. I appreciate everyone’s input.

It could well be something to do with the hurricane, shame it didn't blow all the little b****rs away!!

Am I right in saying you are a regular at Jibacoa? We have been there 10 times up until 2010. We found PCV had quite a similar feel / layout to Jibacoa and really like it there. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great trip!
