Wishing I hadn't booked the PP ?

All the reviews are talking about no sun beds left after 7.00am and rowdy drunken parties. We are going in August with two older children and wanted more of a relaxing time around the pool with some interesting day trips. We normally choose Riu hotels and have always been impressed. Can someone please put my mind at rest and tell me I will be able to find a quieter spot in the shade with no drunken neighbours? I live in hope. .......

Please do not worry.

When I was at PP recently there was a large, badly behaved wedding party there but they never bothered me. The hotel is big and it's no problem avoiding them. Even in the evenings the lobby bar is so big they won't bother you unless you choose to be where they are.

The hotel deals with unacceptable behaviour quietly so as to not upset or worry the vast majority of well behaved guests.

Bad behaviour can happen at any hotel in the world.

Just go and enjoy all that PP has on offer.

It's a lovely hotel and, as others have said it won't be anywhere near maximum occupancy when you are there.

We just returned, overall had a nice holiday due to the the people we met and the excursions, we loved Cuba as a Country. We would not return to the PP, a recent review sums the hotel to a tea. The hotel was full of drunk hen / stag / wedding parties, really put us off. They were at the pool bar from first thing in the morning until it was dark! it was shocking. We spent the days at the beach to get away from it , at night the lobby bar was so full of large groups it was impossible to get a seat on some nights, we would just go back to our room after dinner.

KM_1983:

Such a pity your holiday should be spoiled by such behaviour. I must admit that it would put me off too. However, as I said before, it can happen at any hotel, at any time.

I have to admit this is also worrying me, myself and my daughter are returning to cuba on the 11th July for 2 weeks and the reviews concerning big stag/hen parties is a worry, the last thing I want after working hard all year is to have my holiday ruined by a group of people who have no regard for others! That said I know July is the low season and exceptionally hot so I am hoping that we don't get too many of these!!

Fingers crossed for you. Let's hope these 'parties' are not happening frequently and are just isolated incidents. Best of luck. Please do come back and tell us all about your holiday on your return.

We went to PP in Jan 2008 and found the hotel fantastic. We have booked again for Jan 2014 and must admit that the lastest stream of reviews regarding wedding parties/ large groups are very off putting.

If we hadn't already booked, we feel that we might have looked elsewhere for a holiday.

The hotel went through a spate of bad reviews last year about possible prostiutes working the area as there was a lot of old men with young girls. This too was off putting, however, be the activity true or not, the hotel appeared to sort out any problem.

We are sure that the holiday is what you make of it. We have seen each week, within a two week holiday, to be totally different from each other as travellers come and go. Cuba is slightly different as there are so few flights coming and going. But I am sure we have all witnessed some fluctations in atmosphere from week to week during some holidays.

PP is a big resort and as we are people who like quiet and keep ourselves to ourselves, we will find a quiet corner to take shelter if large parties get in our way....there is plenty of space for everyone.

the most important thing is to do a little bit of research so you can know more what to expect because the information and hotel rating your travel agent gives you often does not reflect the truth.

a lot of problems like over tipping and sunbed wars are created by tourist themselves dispite being advised not to gift not to tip for bad service or just because someone asks you .do not give things to people who beg for it.

but people do so starts an endless circle what most hotelmanement is trying to adress but it is like fighting a loosing battle.

We have just returned from PP and here are our suggestions to avoid the big groups.

Stick to the left hand side of the beach at the far end. Use the pool on the left hand side looking towards the beach.

Booked as many a la carte as you can and go around 7:30 to 8:00.

I am afraid there is no avoiding them in the lobby bar unless you stay close to the reception desk, avoid the area near the toilets and stage as that is where they set up the tables for doing shots etc.

Forget the pool bar, they are their most of the day.

Such a shame really, it is a nice hotel. I counted 5 weddings in 1 day!

Sounds like it's becoming the Benidorm of Cuba.

Actually I think Benidorm has cleaned its act up. Ibiza and certain places in Greece have took over. When you get large parties of people together getting drunk there is always trouble. I would not like it. Someone needs to tell the management at the PP.
