Fairhope or Gulf Shores for the night?

Hi there, will be travelling with 2 adults and 3 kids and planning on a one night overnight trip either at Fairhope at the Hampton Inn or Gulf Shores at Staybridge Suites. Either way, we will drive down and have a swim in the sea the next day. I like the look of Fairhope being a small and quaint little town but have no idea what GS is like at all. Given that we will be travelling at the beginning of July so it is likely to be fairly busy, I guess, which would you choose?

Depending on the night that you are talking about, you may not be able to book just one night in Gulf Shores. Weekends and holidays usually require a longer stay - often a 2 or 3 night minimum. Early July would coincide with our Independence Day holiday on July 4.

True. One night stays are hard to come by. Try Hiltin Garden Inn. You will have a better chance with a motel than a condo. If you have kids they will like the beach better than Fairhope.

Second the Hilton Garden Inn in Orange Beach. Really nice Gulf Front property. Staybridge Suites in GS is fairly new, just know that it is four miles from the beach, if that makes a difference.

We don't care about a place being a bit dead as we won't be doing anything with the kids, arriving late in the afternoon, a look around town, dinner and leaving after breakfast in the morning. We are then heading up through Alabama and Georgia (will call in to the Gulf to have a swim wherever we stay) and will be spending a few nights at Tybee Is so beach is not imperative (we also live 5 minutes from the beach). We're looking for somewhere with a bit of character, and will be travelling around 11 July (a Wednesday night). Thanks for the suggestions. Also, as we will probably need two rooms we have a budget of around $250 in total for either both rooms or a suite. Not interested in being holed up with a rollaway bed and all in one room!

Looked at Hilton Garden and it looks very nice but over our budget as we'd need 2 rooms.

Try Barron Inn, Hampton Inn or Keywest Inn all in Fairhope.

If you do spend the night in Fairhope....try market by the bay for shrimp dinners/poboys...reasonable for your family. On 98 near Nichols near the southeast corner....in the same parking lot as gas station--park in rear.
