Near beach/river holiday rental or hotel - Not expensive

My husband and I have never been to Alabama (don't know anything about it and we are travelling from the UK for the first time). We would love to just relax in the sun for five days or so ,late Feb/early March before moving on to tour around the southern states. Can anyone recommend a nice, laid back place (not expensive)? By the way, will it be warm late Feb/early March? We need a bit of sun having come from London!

Look at Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. It is a nice, laid back area with beautiful beaches and great local restaurants. That time of year should be fairly reasonable for lodging. It will likely still be pretty cold - especially for swimming in the ocean. Some hotels/condo complexes have heated pools. For a decent hotel, I have stayed at the Island House Hotel - http://www.islandhousehotel.com/ - and really liked it. It should be pretty reasonable then. Other options are rental houses or condos. Hopefully others can recommend some of those that may be reasonable for you.
