Comments welcome on this two week itineary for June

Listed below is our itinerary for two weeks in Alaska from June 14-29. We are spending time in Anchorage with relatives. Thanks for all the information and help on this board. We took many of the suggestions to heart and it has made the process easier. Any thoughts are welcome.

Saturday – June 14

Arrive and overnight in Anchorage

Sunday

Drive from Anchorage to Talkeetna and do flightseeing trip with a glacier landing in the afternoon. Debating about getting the Toursaver book. We can use this for 20% off the flightseeing, question about the investment if flight is canceled and we haven't seen much else in the book that we would use.

Drive to Healy to stay three nights at Juhl House,

Monday

7:15 Shuttle bus to Wonder Lake in Denali (3 for 2 pass)

Have three days of reservations to play off the weather. We plan on doing other things in the park. Kind of working of these days as far as taking the shuttle.

Tuesday

7:15 Shuttle bus to Wonder Lake in Denali (3 for 2 pass)

Wednesday

Opt for 7:15 Shuttle bus to Wonder Lake in Denali (3 for 2 pass)

Drive to Fairbanks, overnight at the Forget-Me-Not Lodge and the Aurora Express.

Thursday

Decided not to do anything in Fairbanks at this point. Probably stop at North Pole to say we were there and send a post card.

Drive from Fairbanks down Richardson hwy to Glenallen area, overnight at Lake Louse, The Point Lodge B&B

Looks like a nice trip with lots of time for family in Anchorage.

If you are using a personal car rather than a rental, then the option is open to cross over the Denali Highway to get to Richardson Highway, rather than going up to Fairbanks. You could stay at Paxson, do a float trip or go on down to Lake Louise a day earlier and have an extra day to explore the area then head back along Glenn Highway.

Unfortunately we have a rental car. It would of been an option if we could go down that road.

We stayed at Aurora, too. Cool theme rooms. Great view overlooking Fairbanks. In a quiet area and Susan and Mike are really great hosts.

Decided not to mail postcards, but did get ornaments for Christmas tree from the "North Pole" at Santa Claus House. Pretty large store with wide selection of gifts. There is a shop 32 miles south of Fairbanks on Richardson Hwy called The Knotty Shop. Very nice store. Interesting large animal wood carvings out in front of store. Had to get pictures of those. We stayed the next night at Lake Louise at The Point (pretty area) as well. Stopped at Delta Junction for good lunch at Rika's Roadhouse. Then went on to Wrangell/St Elias Visitor Center - 14 miles south of Glennallen. There is an interesting film on the park at the top of the hour. Watch out for moose when driving down Lake Louise Road.

On your way back to Anchorage, don't forget to stop at Matanuska Glacier at Chickaloon.

Hatcher's Pass Road to Independence Mine (from Palmer) is very scenic, if you're looking for something else to do on way back to Anchorage.

Have great trip.
