What a amazing journey we had!!
May 28th Arrived in Anchorage at 1:30 Picked up car rental (at Airport) and headed down to Seward stopping at Potter's Marsh, McHugh Creek, Beluga Point, Windy Point, and other pull offs. It was a beautiful ride, cloudy but no rain. We arrived in Seward around 7pm and first stop was Safeway for supplies. We checked into the Hotel Seward and Had dinner in the Hotel at Gene's Place! We had fresh Salmon caught just 3 hours before. It was so Delicious. Noting like Atlantic salmon. The Food , service and staff at the Hotel Seward were great. We wanted to reserve a Water Taxi for the next day and Wes, The fishing charter guide from the Hotel arranged it for us with Seward Water Taxi. Wes was telling us about the Weir at Bears Creek where we could see Salmon jumping and instead of giving us directions took us for a ride to it at 10:pm that night. when we returned we stopped in the Yukon Bar for a couple of cold ones then called it a night!
May 29th. Breakfast in our room (We buy cereal and fruit for our breakfast's ).Went down to the south dock to meet our Water Taxi at 10am. Louie the owner was great and very informative. He took us out to Caines Head . We hiked up to Fort McGilvray were we had a picnic lunch. It was indeed very interesting and such beautiful views. We did some rock hounding and sun bathing on south beach waiting for Louie to return at 3PM. It was a sunny day in the 70's. At 4pm we drove up to Exit Glacier and walked the trails. On the way back we stopped at the Pit Bar for a cold one where we met a few locals who told us great stories about the area. Then Back to the hotel to change for Dinner . We ate at Christo's Palace. It reminded me of a greek diner. It had a little bit of every cuisine. The food was very good . After dinner we want to the Yukon Bar where there was a live country acoustic guitar player.
May 30th. Cereal & fruit for breakfast. Checked out of hotel around 10am heading for Girdwood. We stopped at the Weir to see the Salmon again. We went to Portage Valley where we stopped at the visitors center, walked along the lake, We walked the trail to Bryon Glacier where we had lots of fun playing on the snow and a picnic lunch. We also stopped at Explorer glacier and Alder's pond .We arrived at the Alyeska Resort at 5pm. I loved the Valet parking :). The staff were very helpful. Since it was a clear sunny day we decided to give the 7 Glacier a try for dinner. The Tram ride up was fun with beautiful views of Turnagain Arm. Although the food was overpriced (especially the steak) the food and service was very good. After dinner we walked around the grounds for awhile, had a cocktail at the lounge then turned in early.
May 31st. Cereal & fruit breakfast. Needed to be at the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel by 10:30. I loved driving through the tunnel. We took the Phillips 26 Glacier at 12:30pm. The fish and chips lunch was good and the glaciers were amazing. We got to see Surprise Glacier calve. What a BOOM!!. Weather held out for us. Cloudy but no rain. We enjoyed the tour but will add that the boat was only 1/3 full. If it was at full capacity (342 people) you would be packed like sardines. On the way back to the Alyeska we stopped at Jack Sprats in Girdwood for dinner. This was my least favorite place of the trip. The food was okay and overpriced. Service was terrible. After dinner went back to hotel had a cocktail in the lounge and called it a early night.

It was in excellent condition (better than the streets in NYC) It took 2hrs and 15 minutes to dive the 60 miles. As soon as you pass though the towering rocks at the entrance to the road it's as if you stepped back it time. We arrived at 6:30pm walked out bags across the foot bridge and the van from Ma Johnson's was waiting for us. Ma Johnson's was great! No locks on door, no electrical outlets in room and shared baths.
