We returned from Alaska on June 14 after traveling for nearly 2 weeks. Our trip was booked through Rainbow Mountain Adventures. This company was recommended by friends that traveled with them 4 years ago. We were incredibly impressed with the company's attention to detail! They use small Alaskan-owned businesses/vendors and we were never disappointed. Colette followed our travels checking in with us to be sure we were satisfied, even changing our Mt Mckinley flight seeing because she thought the weather would be better the next day - and it was! Highly professional company with customer satisfaction a priority.

I had a very negative experience with this company. Unrealistic schedules, so many "suggested" activities included in a timetable that would have been impossible to achieve in the recommended timeframes and many "hidden extras" in the pricing.

Whilst it all looks good on first glance, I would highly recommend studying the details of any trip proposed with this company as based on the schedules we received, you could end up very disappointed on all the things you thought you were going to have included in your holiday, actually not being achievable.

This is Colette Murray from Rainbow Mountain Adventures. I have reported your comment to Trip Advisor as I believe you did not take a trip through Rainbow Mountain Adventures.

I work very closely with each travel party, spend a lot of time in the planning process and make sure to have good communication if there are any concerns with the tour plan. You have made over 1,900 posts, many of them about Alaska. I'm guessing from your past posts (tez823) that you you are somebody that I have never communicated with.

There are absolutely no hidden costs. Every travel party knows what is included in the tour costs before they travel, we go over the vouchers in detail.

With regards to the itinerary being too full and unrealistic, we provide a travel book with maps, travel articles and sightseeing suggestions that we have created. Each travel party knows that these are just suggestions on areas they may want to explore, depending upon weather, their interests and travel energy.

We have never had any complaints with the BBB, through the ATIA or ASTA.

Maybe you can try to explain the rash of overwhelming positive one-post-wonder posts of late. Why should people like us believe those people really did take the tour and/or were not solicited for a review, even given an incentive to write such glowing reports solely of your company and not of any specific activity they did? That concerns me far more than tez823's comments.

Not to mention, Tez has been a rather longstanding (and contributing) member of TA for some time now. I'm not sure how Colette could know "who" they are and whether or not they actually toured with her.

I actually found this comment of hers to be the silliest:

"With regards to the itinerary being too full and unrealistic, we provide a travel book with maps, travel articles and sightseeing suggestions that we have created. Each travel party knows that these are just suggestions on areas they may want to explore, depending upon weather, their interests and travel energy."

People who have never been to AK can have all the reading materials and maps you want to give them but that doesn't mean they will UNDERSTAND just how far places are or the amount of time needed for many things . . . even simple things like driving from Seward to Denali. (Looks easy enough on a map to just about anyone from the lower 48 . . . but reality is, it shouldn't really be done for a pleasurable drive between them.)

Anyway, add me to the skeptical with FTI, HappyTraveler and MomBear.

My goodness... 3 first time posters including the owner promoting one company. Welcome TA-AK to all 3 newcomers.

My only comment is that it is so easy, fun & most importantly *cheaper* to arrange one's own trip without paying the high prices of a travel agent!

That's why we volunteers all work so hard to help others here on TA_AK!

As Von said, since Tez has been here in the AK forums quite often, I'd much sooner believe their statements than three people that are all brand spanking new.

I highly advise people to click on a user's name and then view their past statements/reviews, etc. By doing this, you can get a very good idea if the person is someone whose opinions you can trust. In this case, Tez is most definitely a person I'd trust.
