Not in Alaska . . . but worth sharing

This is very happy news for many!

It is also the reason why people are told to keep a full tank of gas and provisions in the car any time they are traveling in or through a cold weather area. You just never know when you might be stranded. Regarding running the car when stuck in the snow, always be sure to clear your exhaust pipe so that you are not exposed to CO2. Many people die when running their car engines when stuck in snow.

Be safe out there. This couple survived in the snowy wilderness for nearly a week!

It is happy news. Even happier news would be if we'd get some snow!!!!

I'm glad they were found alive and OK, but this incident had all the makings of "Death by GPS". Basically they were blindly following their navigation system, which led them down Beartooth Highway, a normally scenic road that had been closed (and signed as such) since September.

Again, I am glad they are OK, but you just have to wonder sometimes.

I too have had a harrowing incident with a GPS in an unfamiliar area . . . thankfully not nearly as scary as these incidents or the one up in Fairbanks that resulted in autos being driven on active airport runways.

If you are using a GPS, you are doing so because you are essentially blindly following the routing in a belief that the satellite and mapping system knows what it's doing.

In the case of the couple in WY/MT, I read that they didn't see the "road closed" sign as it was at dusk or maybe even after nightfall. What I don't understand is why the Beartooth Hwy heading in that direction from Yellowstone did not have a gate to close continued access as there is one coming from the other direction (from Red Lodge, MT).

I'm just glad in both of these incidents, these people survived. Too bad about the man's kitty. :(

Ahhh - what happened to reading the good ole map???? You know - where hubby yells at wife for getting her left & rights mixed up (that's me........) or reading it "upside down"???? At least you got to make your OWN mistakes - not blame it on "Betty" (what my parents call their TomTom)!

I thought that in Australia you were supposed to read maps upside down?
