In Ketchikan, we have a wonderful parade, pie sale, carnival games, food court, and logging competition, all within the central downtown core. Fireworks over the water at 11pm with Alaskan scenery in the background are unforgettable, especially if you can get on a charter boat or watch from the water.

Seward has the largest 4th of July celebration in Alaska. The streets downtown are closed for craft & food vendors. We have fireworks, parade, games and the 2nd oldest foot race in the USA with a 2,033' climb up and back down Mt Marathon. The front runners do it in less than an hour.

If your planning on being here around then make sure to get reservations asap.

Juneau has a great fireworks display at 12:01am on the 4th. Everyone stays up and celebrates the night of the 3rd, followed by fireworks at the very beginning of the 4th.

During the day (4th, not 3rd) we have one of the larger parades in South East, then there are BBQs, art shows, festival events, a small carnival and a whole slew of other events to fill the day. It's a great day to get around on foot or with a bicycle, as traffic usually gets blocked off for most of the day - at least in the downtown area.

Haines has a full day of celebrations on the 4th as well......early morning foot race up Mt Ripinsky.....parade downtown (hope we never have a fire on that date, all the fire trucks from miles around are in the parade)......lunchtime barbeque and bake sale at the park downtown.......tractor races (the little peddle powered ones) for the small kids.......mud volley ball for older kids......then we head out to Chilkoot Lake where entrants compete in a raft race down the River......Rafts have to be homemade and not cost more than $10 each.......interesting to see the designs and contraptions that they come up with and risk their lives in running the river.......later there is a gathering at the parade grounds of Fort Seward where they fire the cannon.......fireworks are launched around midnight for those who are still awake......
