Monument Valley to Grand Canyon

We have one night in Monument Valley, on the day we leave we want to spend three or so hours after sunrise to do a horse ride. Then we travel to Grand Canyon, but the question is, should we go straight to GC and try and arrive at sunset on the drive in, or should we do some sightseeing on the way and then stay overnight. Then we can drive into GC early morning. What would Cameron be like for an overnight?

What time of year? Monument Valley to GCNP is about 3 hours drive. You should be able to get there by late afternoon at least, and still be able to see the sunset.

Cameron Trading Post has a lodge, and I have stayed there. The rooms are nice, though rather dated, but I didn't feel they were very secure. And there's nothing to do there after dark.

Book a room in the park at GCNP. You should also be able to see the east drive overlooks on your way in, and still see the sunset in the area of GC Village. And you will want to spend at least half the next day, or you won't see very much of GCNP.

Hi, we are travelling mid October next year, we have two nights booked at the Canyon so we can arrive late on the first night and still have time to see everything on the next day. But we didn't want to rush it from MV and then find we are travelling along the Desert View entrance in the dark. Also do you gain or lose an hour MV to GC??

I'd also drive from MV to GC Village directly. And yes, you'll gain one hour between MV and GC for timedifference in october.
