Road Trip Advice

My husband and I are planning our first visit to Arizona in November. We were thinking of flying to Phoenix and staying there for a couple of days and then renting a car for a 6 day road trip that would end in Las Vegas for our last 2 days. We definitely want to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona and perhaps Antelope Canyon, the Painted Desert so it looks like we should head north and then west but then the south looks so beautiful. Any ideas about a route, towns to stay in along the way and other must sees would be greatly appreciated.

In 4 days, as it appears that's all you have after allotting time to Phoenix and Las Vegas, you could reasonably visit the Grand Canyon and Sedona, 2 nights each. Logically you would want to go to Sedona first as it is 2 hours from Phoenix. First priority is to get lodging for GCNP. The best experience is to stay in the park.

If you travel to GCNP via Hwy 89 to the east entrance, you can see the Painted Desert from viewpoints within the Wupatki and Sunset Crater monuments. Sorry but you don't have enough time to go to Page for Antelope Canyon.

Look into flight costs and car hire from Phoenix and LV. We found, without counting in drop off fees for a one way drop off, it was much, much cheaper to do a round trip from LV.

If costs concern you.

Thanks for the info. We will have 6 days in addition to our 4 days in Phoenix and Las Vegas so would we have enough time to go to Page or is it better to stay longer in Sedona?

Plan 2 nights in Page. That will give you the opportunity to visit Antelope Canyon and take the half day float trip on the river in Glen Canyon.

More or less on the way between Page and Las vegas you'll find Bryce and Zion. Maybe too much in 6 days but I still would recommend to stay one night in Zion on the way.

Definitely two nights in page so you can take your time. I'd also try to work in Bryce and Zion, and of course, the Grand Canyon ...maybe cut a day off Phoenix?
