Waterfall Wedding

Tripadvisor friends,

I have a BIG request. My daughter wants to get married at the foot of an Arkansas Waterfall in May or June of 2015. She wants it to be tall enough to be the backdrop for her fiancé and her. I want it to be easy enough to that the guesses want half to walk very far. Does anyone know if such one exists in our 'natural' state?

We live in the Northeast corner of Arkansas, but are willing to travel wherever it takes to reach this perfect destination. They have hiked to several in the Jasper/Ponca region but they were too much to take a wedding party to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have a week coming up soon to go explore but just need guidance as in which way to even go.

There is an boardwalk that provides an easy walk to the water gushing out of Blanchard Springs Caverns near Mountain View. Don't know if the US Forestry service allows weddings in front of it although they do allow them at the amphitheater there. Have you checked out Bridal Veil Falls in Heber Springs? There's a platform that overlooks the falls but not quite sure that would be what your daughter wants.

As you have found out, most waterfalls in Artkansas require some hiking to get to. The following are possibilities you might look at:

1. Longbow Resort in Prim, Arkansas. Gorgeous place. www.longbowresorts.com

2. Azalea Falls in Buffalo River Country. There are many weddings on the beck of the lodge facing the 85 foot falls www.azaleafalls.com . They also arrange weddings down by Steele Creek, a beautiful setting.

3. Lost Valley. Easy level trail leads to the falls in beautiful Boxley, Arkansas - Buffalo River Country. Great waterfalls and easy level walk in, but takes 45 minutes to walk into - probably too long for your guests. www.buffaloriver.com/lost-valley-trail/.

Remember waterfalls in AR are usually dependent in rainfall. May and June should be friendly to falls, but you should watch the issue as the time gets closer.

Another thought - you might check with your library to see if they can locate a copy of the Tim Ernst book on Arkansas waterfalls. It could be that we are forgetting an obvious choice. There are detailed instructions on access to each of the falls. Most are pretty remote.

Tim may or may not answer a query. You might email him. If he is inspired by your story, he may give you some personal ideas, but he may not. These are the addresses I have for him. timernst@timernst.com, Tim@TimErnst.com,

Triple Falls near Camp Orr is a flat half mile hike from the road. Would make a nice backdrop depending on recent rainfalls. Tim Ernst's book is a good suggestion.

We have been meaning to go to the Longbow for a few years and haven't made it yet. Do you know how large the area is around the waterfall? Wondering about guest number.

We haven't been to bridal veil. Do you know how far in it is?

It is a steep walk down to the actual fall. There is a lookout point but I'm not sure this is what your looking for.
