Looking for Coffee Shops/Bakeries?

We are planning a road trip in Arkansas, mainly taking back roads. One of the highlights of previous road trips has been finding some great little locally owned coffee shops and bakeries. We like to drive, stop for coffee, eat, drive, more coffee, drive, etc.

Here are the three routes we're looking for nice stopping (coffee) places: 1.) West Helena-Stuttgart-Little Rock. 2.) Highway 7 between Hot Springs to Harrison 3.) Fayetteville-Harrison-Jonesboro-Memphis.

Any advice for little stops along these routes? Thanks!

Not a coffee shop but just as you're leaving Hot Springs Village (north on route 7), you'll pass the Home Plate Cafe, little local place that has some great down-home cooking.

Here are a few to consider. I have been to most, but pulled a couple from a great blog:

Serenity Farm Bread, Leslie - One of my favorites in rural Arkansas. Not overly caloric, more on the health conscious side.

Ms. Lena's Pie Shop, Devalls Bluff (and her cousin's barbeque joint across the street - Craigs Barbeque). These are both institutions. The pie shop, in a hard to find old garage with "Pies" scrawled on the side, closes when the pies are sold so stay in touch with them. Save room for barbeque from nearby Craig's.

Ed & Kay's in Benton along I-30 is an institution. Known for their Mile High meringue pies, and plate lunches.

Charlotte's Eats and Sweets, Keo. Famous for its coconut meringue and egg custard pies.

Rita's Restaurant, Hector AR: I have not been here either but I am ready to go after reading about their famous Lemon Icebox pie - barely sweet with fluffy cream cheese, lemon zest, and a little vanilla piled into a hand-crushed vanilla wafer crust.

10894 Highway 27, Hector AR 72843 479-284-3000

Boardwalk Café, Jasper: This one also I have missed - said to be famous for its Ozark Black Walnut Pie, made from local black walnuts, chopped and combined with raw sugar and other ingredients to create a creamy nut-topped pie. .

215 East Court Street, Jasper AR 72641 870-446-5900

My favorite bakeries in Little Rock are Boulevard Bread and a caterer named Diane's, who has been baking ridiculously tempting flakey pastry topped apple pies fresh from Granny Smith, for years and I have no resistence to them. Unfortunately no pies by the slice but worth it to go for it all. www.dianes-gourmet.com/‎

If you spend some time in Little Rock, try these two great places, which are just what you're looking for.

Community Bakery, 1200 Main Street http://communitybakery.com

Mylo Coffee, 2715 Kavanaugh in Historic Hillcrest https://www.facebook.com/MyloCoffeeCo

RIP Ed, Alma and Kay. I guess McDonald's and the like will be our kids' only choices.

Stopping in Leslie is definitely worth it. Cute little town (hamlet?) just a block off the highway. A good stopping point especially after a couple of hairpin turns!

In Harrison, try Neighbor's Mill. http://neighborsmill.com/.

I don't get to Little Rock much anymore, but in addition to Community Bakery, you could also stop at the cafe the Arkansas Arts Center http://www.bestimpressionsrestaurant.com/

Maybe the Staring Artist Cafe in North Little Rock http://www.starvingartistcafe.net/
