Always think Castle Crags looks so pretty from the 5. (as does Shasta)
However, went to the state park's website & found next to nothing re: how to experience it at ALL.
Not into camping...
any quick/short trails or anything to do, to break up our trip a bit?
(if we choose to drive to Pac NW both directions on 5 this May?)
Also recently read about a waterfall near Dunsmuir (close to Castle Crags)...
and also about Burney. However, doing long road trip to Northwest. Don't have time for everything! How to choose is the problem.
Silver Falls in Oregon vs. these in NorCal vs. Olympic Nat'l Park visit? (and falls there)
Silver Falls near Salem, Oregon sounds tempting...
and probably is closer to I-5 than Burney.
And ONP is indeed 'calling.' Just can't decide if May way too early or not for Olympic Nat'l Park.
Anyone been to all of these places who could make a recommendation? We originally thought we'd drive coast 101 and eventually wind way back to I-5, but have never spent much time along 5/Shasta area in NorCal.
This will be in mid-May. Not sure if one can explore either Shasta OR Castle Crags much then? Or should we stick w/the coastal route. It IS lovely. (have done it before) Just was consdering 'diversifying' our experiences a bit.
However, in Spring...the rhodies in the woods & flowers galore along 101 are mighty tempting, too. Thanks so much!
