Southern California, most see non-touristic places

Hi!

My boyfriend and I will visit Southern California for about 1 1/2-2 weeks in the end of december-beginning of january. We will visit the main cities (LA, San Diego), but I was wondering what are the other less touristic most see places?

Thank you so much!

What kind of things do you enjoy seeing and will you have a car?

Non touristy places are non touristy because there's nothing to see. So there really is no such thing as "must see" non touristy places.

Since you asked about Hostels in San Francisco, here is a listing of hostels in Los Angeles area.

http://www.hostels.com/los-angeles/usa

for this area, Hollywood, Venice Beach, or Santa Monica would be nice stays.

However, these places are touristy - so they may or may not be on your list of must sees.

Yogachik has often pointed out that while Downtown Santa Monica gets a lot of tourists, the Main St. and Montana Ave. commercial districts are much less tourist-oriented. There are lots of examples of that kind of thing, e.g. Getty Museum lots of tourists, the Hammer (modern art) and Fowler (world art) Museums on the UCLA campus much less so.

But Drill 'n Fill is right, the most important thing is what you're interested in. LA is a very large city with many places to visit, the great bulk of them not dominated by tourists. Tell us what you want and we'll tell you how to find it.

There's plenty of places to go and attractions to see in the Greater Los Angeles/Southern California area. Many of these are not necessarily written about in these forums all of the time, but are nevertheless places you might well want to see. There's plenty to see outside the City of Los Angeles. . . 87 other incorporated cities in Los Angeles County alone.

Once you know where you want to go, the next step is to decide whether or not you will need to rent a car, or use public transit instead. Los Angeles is built around the automobile, and having a car allows more freedom of choice in places to see, so keep that in mind.
