Hotel/motel just before grapevine going from SF to LA?

We will drive late at night from San Francisco to Orange county. I hate driving the grapevine at night. What is a decent motel to stay in just before the grapevine going south? thanks

There used to be a Ramada and a Motel 6 in Lebec right off the interstate the last time we were in So Cal. I think Lebec is the last * town* in the valley before you begin your climb. Good luck!

There's a Best Western at the Laval Rd exit -- you can't miss it. It's by the In and Out burger that everyone stops at.

Just before you start up the grapevine is a very nice little place, Best Western Plus Liberty Inn and there some fast food restaurants there too.

Hello ElizabethStreetMoM, and welcome to the California forum.

Phaminator and Scottca have it right. . . in the town of Grapevine at the base of the Grapevine grade ascent/descent lies the Best Western Plus Liberty Inn Hotel. There's also a Denny's 24 hour restaurant as well as an In-N-Out Burger and Jack in the Box fast food restaurants. A Chevron fuel station completes the traveler services there.

Further back to the north of Grapevine (the town) on CA Route 99 is the Panama area of Bakersfield. Lots more traveler services there, as well as in Bakersfield proper.

Just fyi: up the Grapevine grade is Lebec, Frazier Park, and Gorman. Frazier Park has the most traveler services of the three mountain communities. A Flying J fuel/truck stop complete with restaurant and motel is in Frazier Park, as well as a Jack in the Box and a family mexican restaurant or two. . . all right off of Interstate 5 to the west. Gorman has a Carl's Jr and McDonald's, and an Econolodge motel. Here's a TripAdvisor review link on lodging in the area: tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g32616-Lebec_Californ… My thought is the Best Western - which is actually in Grapevine the town, and *not* Lebec (a goof on the part of TripAdvisor staffers) - is a very good choice given your preferences.

Hope you have a safe trip. Enjoy your southward travels.
