Morro Bay to Yosemite

Mapquest directions from Morro Bay to Yosemite are to drive CA-41 and estimated travel time is approx. 5 hours. However, when I look at the mapquest map, it looks like that route is twisty and possibly partially mountainous. Is that right? Would it really only take 5 hours?

It's probably only 4 hours to the South Entrance of Yosemite NP, and then another hour to Yosemite Valley.

And yes, the road goes into the Sierra Nevada mountains where Yosemite NP is located.

There are come curvy sections, but the whole route isn't like that - you have a whole lot of straight road as you cross the central valley. There will be curvy sections leaving the coast and then once you get into the Sierras when you get close to Yosemite. The curvy-est section is probably between the south entrance to Yosemite and Yosemite Valley, on Hwy 41.

You can use Google Streetview to see what different parts of the route look like (plot the route on Google Maps and then drag and drop the Google Man onto your route).

Highway 41 from Morro Bay to the 101 is winding, and you climb and then descend into Atascadero...but it's only about a 20 minute drive. There are turnouts so you can pull over if people are right behind you.
