Lake Tahoe

North or South Tahoe for 4 families? We want one big house with 6 or more bedrooms and lots of bathrooms, preferrably as close to the lake as possible. Any suggestions?

South Lake Tahoe is more built up with more non lake activities. North Lake Tahoe has smaller villages and is more laid back. You will have to decide what is your style.

You are going to find more large home vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe, particularly Tahoe Keys, if you can afford it.

www.vrbo.com is the place to start

Like big casinos.

Yes and feels more alpine,

That is for sure, I am not a big South Lake fan because it feels overly commercialized.

There are plenty of big North Lake Tahoe homes.

I kind of gather that Scott does not like my quick analysis of the difference between the North and South portion of the Lakes. I go to Lake Tahoe usually at least once a month and enjoy both sides of the Lake. The casinos at the Stateline only take up a block, so not a big deal. There are more activities and many more dining choices at the South shore. You also have the Heavenly Village with the gondola, miniature golf and the multiplex theatre. You can find bike rentals, horseback riding, watercraft rentals at the south shore, but also some of these at the North end of the Lake.

The Lake Tahoe area is not so large that you cannot easily make a drive to any area that you want. I would not worry so much about where to stay and worry about making a mistake about the location.

We've stayed in a very nice home in the Dollar Point development on North Shore. They have some rentals there with 6+ bedrooms.

Actually I agree 100% with the quick analysis, I just expanded upon why I like North Lake over South. You are spot on is saying 'you will have to decide what is your style'. I was emphasizing what the dominant style of how each seems to me. The South is more commercialized and that isn't what I look for when going to the mountains.
