CA River Areas Other Than t Russian River for New Vaca Spot

Hi Please suggest all known River areas for vacation we are in strong need of a new vacation spot. We recently had some losses in our family and can't bring ourselves to return to the same places. Staying at home is getting difficult. The areas need to be dog friendly, accomodations like cabins or rental homes, not really into camping. We LOVE the Russian River area and this is where we can't return. It's just too painful without our loved ones. Thank you for all your suggestions.

Sorry about your losses. I can understand wanting to change locations.

The best rivers in California are in the north or in the Sierra. Look at the Eel, Trinity and Klamath. Also the Smith River in Del Norte county.

In the Sierra, the Yuba near Nevada City is fantastic and very dog friendly. The Yuba has three forks and there is a wide variety of lodging options. Nevada City is just an hour and a half drive from Vacaville.

We're sorry about your losses and the difficult time you're having.

If you want a getaway area conveniently close to home, how about the Sacramento River Delta? Maybe you have already spent time there, since you live so close. Even so, it's a vast area that extends from the west side of Sacramento to Rio Vista and Antioch, wherethe Bay begins. There is lots of territory and plenty to do. You can choose from houseboats or cabins, marinas accessible from land or from water only, islands, fishing, nature and wildlife watching, or getting away from urban life in the tiny farming or fishing towns. Some of the towns have historic hotels or B&Bs..

Farther north, the Sacramento is less busy because it’s less navigable for bigger vessels. Redding has a shoreline along the river and is also the gateway to Trinity and Shasta county which have extensive water recreation areas. One of our Calif. regulars, peddler665, spends a lot of time in that area, and I hope he comes here and sees this thread.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your kindness and help. Moving forward is hard and having new places does make it easier. I find it kind of fun looking at new places. All of these ideas are new. May you both be abundantly blessed.
