Baseball Game - LA or San Francisco

I will be in LA 1st-2nd September and San Francisco 5th-6th September....I would love to see a Baseball game and am trying to figure out whether it is better in La or San Francisco.

* We are staying at The Beverly Hilton - is it easy to get to and from our hotel...and what is the best form of transport??

* We are staying at Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco - same again how easy is it to get to the stadium and best transport??

How long does a baseball game go for? Ideally want the safest way of getting home if it is later in the evening.

All your help and recommendations are much appreciated :)

Look up the schedules at the sites for the teams or other site. Dodgers play the San Diego Padres in L.A. on the afternoon of Sept. 1, but are out of town the next day. The SF Giants play Arizona the evenings of Sept. 5 and 6. I've only been to Dodger Stadium, but have heard that the fairly new AT&T Park in San Francisco is great (do take a jacket), plus the Giants won the last "World" Series (though aren't doing so well this year), so I'd probably go for that. Besides, you may have other plans on your Sunday afternoon in L.A.

In LA, best form of transport is to rent a car and drive to the stadium. You could also take a taxi - figure about $40 each way between your hotel and Dodger Stadium. For public transit, your hotel is at the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd. and Wilshire Blvd. The best approach is to take Metro Bus 704 east on Santa Monica Blvd. and exit at Union Station in downtown LA. There's a free shuttle bus between Union Station and Dodger Stadium on Dodger game days. For the return, you'd take the shuttle back to Union Station. If Bus 704 is not running at that time, you can use bus 4, which follows the same route but stops more frequently so is a bit slower.

A baseball game usually lasts around 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 hours, but it depends. There's no clock in baseball so the game can be over sooner or later. Because games cannot end in a tie, games can extend indefinitely until one team prevails - in such cases the game would probably end in 4 or 5 hours but its possible to take longer.

To a new visitor to the game, It should not matter which game you go to. To a SF Giants fan, there is nothing like AT&T park which was voted by TA members as the one of the top 2 parks in the country. To a Dodgers fan, nothing like their park.

Look at it from your free time, logistics and your interest. If you have 3-4 days in a city, then an evening game is better as it gives you the whole day to sightsee

A car is not advised in SF so one can take the 30 Stockton bus from FW and get off close to ATT Park or take the historic F street car to Embarcadero and walk from there with thousands of fans to the park.

Close to SF and a BART train ride away is Oakland and the Oakland A's

Here is an article about both Bay Area teams

On September 1st, the LA Dodgers are in town, on September 2nd, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (near Disneyland) has a home game.

On September 5th and 6th, both Bay Area teams are at home, the Oakland A's and the San Frnacisco Giants.

Anaheim Angels play about 40miles South of the Bev Hilton so logistically not the closest place to attend. If you want to go to a game in LA, Dodger stadium is about 12 or so miles away.

You are very fortunate. Sounds like you have your choice of games. One thing to note in case it matters in your decision: Sydneysider Grant Balfour is an AllStar in Oakland. web.theabl.com.au/news/article.jsp…

Thankyou all for your very helpful suggestions.

If we were to get a taxi in LA roughtly $40 each way as you mentioned, does that include if there was alot of traffic??

Which city is closer and easier by taxi or public transport from our hotels to get to and from the game?

>>Which city is closer and easier by taxi or public transport from our hotels to get to and from the game?<<

Do you mean which city, LA or SF is closer to the game? If you are staying in San Francisco, the fantastic new ballpark is walking distance from many places and a short Muni (bus) ride from others.

I don't see this as a difficult decision, unless you are more interested in the teams than the venue.

Want to see a home run hit into the Bay, and the yachts out there waiting for it?

What can I say?

Agree with Puter this is a no brainer decision. Been to both parks many times and hands down love love watching the Giants play in their stadium. (How much longer is the AT&T naming rights? I liked the sound of PacBell Park.) Much more intimate and a possible home run in the water is a bonus. I didn't see if these are day or night games but weather shouldn't really matter as long as you prepare. I have burnt to a crisp in a May afternoon and froze our butts off just not long ago at night. And public transportation is the norm and not exceptions in SF.

Too bad you are not here a little longer. The September 8th game is Star Wars day. I will be escorted by one of the MANY Storm Troopers who will go that day. :p
