4 days from LA to San Fran need help with itenerary

Hello everyone.

Me and the girlfriend are taking a road tip in October. We will be going for 17 nights starting in San Francisco and doing the loop, passing through Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas, GCNP and LA.

Our only problem is we cannot decide what to do with our last 4 days.

Ideally we would like to end up in Monterey, So we can easily set of early morning back to San Francisco for our flight home.

The only things we know that we want to do for sure is Big Sur and Pt Lobos as I hear the views are breathtaking.

If you had a 4 day itinerary and were in the same situation where would you stay and why? I'm looking for inspiration.

Thanks for reading.

What do you like to do and see. People have different likes and dislikes and the more info one provides, the more strangers can help you.

The Hwy 1 drive can easily be done in 4 days with SB, Pismbo and Monterey Carmel

here is a link to help you with some info

Here is a travelogue of the coast that was posted by another member of this forum. Each photo has a descriptive caption, so you can read about a place. This may help you decide what you want to see and do: https:/…5621071823861282305

Also, here is another travelogue about the eastern Sierra area, which will help you decide what to see and do after Yosemite and before Death Valley: travelswithbillandnancy.com/eastern_sierras.…

At the time you will be there, fall colors should be at their maximum in many areas. Drive the June Lake Loop and you should see some of them up close: http://tinyurl.com/mksz5xb

You can download a map to where the fall colors are typically seen at www.monocounty.org/docs/FallColorGuide.pdf, and there are daily updates of sightings posted at http://californiafallcolor.com

You could take the fast route down to Cambria, spend a night there taking in Hearst Castle, enjoying the quaintness of Cambria and then make your way up to Monterey for 2 nights via Big Sur.

From Cambria to Monterey:

Elephant seal rookery 4 miles north of Hearst Castle

Ragged Point

McWay Falls @ Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Nepenthe/Phoenix Shop

Pfeiffer Beach

Bixby Bridge

While in the Monterey area:

Point Lobos State Reserve

Carmel By The Sea

Carmel Beach

17 Mile Drive

Asilomar Beach/Pacific Grove shoreline

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Cannery Row

Rent bikes and ride the rec trail

Old Fisherman's Wharf

If your flight leaves later in the day, you could make stops in Santa Cruz and/or Henry Cowell State Park on the way back to SFO.
