Plan B

Hi guys

Need some help,

Heading on my honeymoon on Sept 16 to San Francisco for 4 nights onto napa for 2 nights.

From napa we head for el portal for 3 nights.

From El Portal we head from death valley and finally finishing in Las Vegas.

Now this fire is looking like not getting any better.

As it's our honeymoon we don't want any doubts over

Hotels/ routes ie Tioga pass.

If we cancel El Portal & Death Valley what rourt would you recommend ?

Lake Tahoe or down the Californian coast? 2 stops 4 Nights.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think your itinerary is still fine.

After your Yosemite tourism (El Portal is about 25 minutes from Yosemite Valley, 1 1/4 hrs from Glacier Point, and 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hrs from Mariposa Grove), you might need to drive around the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountain range to Death Valley NP or maybe over Sonora Pass to Hwy 395. But the route over Tioga Pass could be open by the time you're visiting Yosemite.

Plan A: Tioga Pass is open. http://goo.gl/maps/BQ0iP Detailed information for this drive: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g28926-c182361

Plan B: same lodgings. Drive from El Portal to Death Valley NP via Bakersfield: http://goo.gl/maps/Jsuza

Plan C: same lodgings. Drive from El Portal to DVNP via Hwy 108 / Sonora Pass http://goo.gl/maps/cDYtI

No doubts. No need to change lodgings.

By September 16, all routes will be open including Tioga Pass. I would stick with your original plan. I am a local resident from Sonora and know the area well. Sonora Pass as an option is always a good alternative. Road is not recommended for trailers or motor homes because of a couple of steep sections but a very scenic trip. Go with your original plan, it is a good one.
