OK, I presume you have a Debit Card with a VISA or MasterCard logo, if so, no worries.

You should have gotten a 4 digit "PIN", you use that much of the time, including when you want to withdrawal of cash from a ATM, or get cash back from a store with a purchase.

A couple fof minor issues.

If you use it at a gas (petrol) pump, it might want a 5 digit US Zip code, sometimes "00000" works, otherwise just go inside to the clerk in the shop to authorize the pump to work.

Some places in California will now charge a small fee to use the card, but there should be clear signage if they do.

If you use it as a deposit, such as a hotel or car rental, they will "hold" the funds, and might take a few days after returning the car/checking out. So better to use a credit card for those transactions. You can always ask to pay at the end with a separate card, such as the prepaid card, and they would just take the exact amount directly off the card, with no hold.

You can always ask them to run it as a credit card transaction if there are issues with the PIN. Has always worked for me when I get these cards from rewards programs.

They work just like regular ATM cards. One thing in case your balance is getting low. When you go to a gas station, slide your card and pump...the system automatically enters $100. it doesn't charge that much whenyou finish. But if you don't have $100 credit left it will decline. Go inside and tell them how much gas you want to buy.
