What to pack

Hi

We're travelling to SF on Sat 12 Oct then taking a short 4 night road trip down highway one stopping in Santa Cruz, Monterey and Cambria before (hopefully) spending 5 nights in Kings Canyon and Yosemite, then driving up to Sonoma for 2 nights before finishing off with 3 nights in SF. The problem is what to pack - looks like it could warm enough for shorts & t shirts during the day but nights do look rather chilly. Is that correct? Also I like to get dressed for dinner a few times on holiday and wondered if autumn/winter fashions are being worn or is it still summer stuff? - sorry to all those blokes who've just groaned:)

Am happy with technical layers and waterproofs for hiking, it's the general touristy stuff I just don't know what to pack

Many thanks

Hi Deefer

Do you know about our government shutdown? National Parks are closed.

Daytimes can be warm and nights will be chilly. There are some rainstorms on the horizon so you may even encounter some chilly and rainy days.

Pack for warm layers. Bring along shorts and some tees also as they take up minimal room and it would be nice to have if you nee them.

Good walking shoes would also be recommended.

Have fun.

The CA coast is not exactly a fashion-conscious sort of place, so it doesn't matter if you wear fall or summer colors. Wear whatever you like - that's what everybody else does. People tend to dress for the weather and whatever they are doing rather than the season. Summer is foggy and cool, so people wear jeans and fleeces year round. SF is a larger city, so fashion is more in people's minds, but because summer is cool and foggy, "summer" clothing is never very popular there.
