Help planning my road trip

Hello,

I am planning a trip to California for three weeks. 2 adults and 1 child (two years old). I have from 29th March until 19/20 April. I'd like to take in the following (plus any other suggestions) but am struggling plan a route and where to stay.

San Francisco

Yosemite

Big Sur

LA (incl Disney and Hollywood)

San Diego

Las Vegas

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks B

Hi Beth

Will you be flying in/out from the same airport? If so, this itinerary might work for you:

SF: 3 nights (2 full days)

Monterey: 1 night

Pismo Beach: 1 night (Big Sur en route)

LA: 3 nights (2 full days)

Anaheim: 2 nights (Disney. Best to stay closer to the park. LA traffic is brutal getting back and forth)

San Diego: 3 nights (2 full days)

Las Vegas: 3 nights (2 full days)

Fresno or Oakhurst: 1 night

Yosemite: 2 nights (Lodging may be hard to come by at this late date. Check with the folks in the Yosemite forum for advice on securing lodging)

SF: 1 night

Obviously you'll be visiting places that you want to see, and that will work with a 2 year old. I think that the previous itinerary is a reasonably relaxed pace, which you will need with a child.

I took a 3 year old to Disneyland. She loved it, but she has no memory of the visit as an adult. She was happy at some of the real simple things there, like the steam train, the princesses, and Tom Sawyer's Island. One of the shows really scared her (there was a talking tree and a villian). I am not a fan of Anaheim, but in your case it makes sense to stay there if the little one fades early.

Las Vegas will probably involve a lot of time pushing a stroller through a lot of casino shopping malls and lobbies.

When in LA I would stay in a place like Santa Monica because it is an inviting area to walk around, with the beach, shopping, and hotels all close together.

In San Diego I think that you should go to the zoo. Sea World is a great place but their shows take place in stadium like ampitheaters, which might be difficult to deal with with a toddler.

You will be visiting during Spring Break and Easter Vacation. Disneyland can be a nightmare then. Best to go to the Anaheim forum and get advice about when to visit and advice on how to make sure you can get in.
