Santa Clara, Monterey or Carmel

Going August - Is Santa Clara worth a a day or twos stay? Also, looking to spend 3 nts in Carmel or Monterey - which do people prefer (realise they are very close). Another is Pismo Beach - do folk recommend it to break the journey down to Santa Barbara? We have a few days in hand before we need to be in SB to catch up with friends.

The usual places to break the journey between Monterey / Carmel and Santa Barbara would be Cambria, Morro Bay or Pismo Beach. Cambria is quite close to San Simeon which is where the famous Hearst Castle is located and if it at all interests you, a tour there would be suggested.

Hi! Carmel and Monterey are both beautiful areas of the coast to visit. What is your nightly budget for lodging and do you prefer smaller inns or larger, resort-style hotels? :)

Santa Clara is not usually considered vacation destination. It is a suburb in the Santa Clara Valley, which is part of the "silicon valley"., near San Jose.

Santa Clara is where Great America theme park is, where the San Francisco 49ers play - with pre season game starting August 2014; and were other events will occur at the currently being built Levi Stadium. There is avery good hopping nearby at Westfield Mall and Santana Row in San Jose (this shopping area borders Santa Clara). It is also where the Winchester Mystery house (some like it and some hate it.).

So unless you are going to one of the above, Santa Clara is not a tourist center - but it is a technology business center for Silicon Valley, has many ethnic restaurants, and is also a residential area.

If you are wondering if Santa Clara is worth going to instead of Monterey/Carmel go to Monterey/Carmel.

Have fun.

Superbowl football game 2016 will also take place in Santa Clara.

While I love living in Santa Clara, it is not a typical tourist destination. How did you arrive to Santa Clara as a destination?

Please look on the right hand side of your screen on a non mobile web browser for the Top Questions for CA itinerary. There is one for the coastal drive down Hwy 1.

If you are in San Jose/Santa Clara to visit friends/work related/etc - then consider going down to Santa Cruz-Monterey-Cambria-and maybe Pismo/SLO/Paso on your way to Santa Barbara.
