multi centre holiday including anaheim suggestions needed

I am hoping to get some advice / recommendations for where to visit and stay and who to book with for a 14 day holiday in California April 2015.

My husband and I have booked 4 day tickets for the Starwars celebration 7 being held in Anaheim April 16th - 19th 2015 at the convention centre. We are then looking to possibly visit other cities in the area. Happy to hire a car and drive or fly.

We were hoping to stay in the Anaheim area for 6-7 days so we can also visit Disneyland and either visit somewhere before and after or after . We have only ever been to orlando and st petes beach when we've been to the states previously

Ok, well, to start this is a question with potentially a LOT of answers. It would help us to better help you if you could tell us what other sorts of things interest you and/or what you are looking for on this vacation.

Do you like warm weather, golfing, swimming, and desert scenery? Then perhaps some time in Palm Springs is in order.

A great city with fantastic beaches, museums, a world class zoo, Sea World, and a beautiful harbor? Then perhaps some time in San Diego.

Want quintessential southern California beaches? Then some time in the Orange County beach areas (Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Dana Point).

Want some great museums, some more amazing beaches, the home of the movie and entertainment industry? Then some time in the LA area.

Want another world class, gorgeous and compact city with some great famous attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the famous cable cars? Then San Francisco.

Want to do a world class drive with tons and tons of stunning scenery, hiking opportunities, and some gorgeous, scenic and quaint towns to stop at along the way? Then you want to do the coastal drive between LA and San Francisco through Big Sur on Highway 1, with stops in places like Santa Barbara, Pismo beach, Cambria, Monterey and Carmel.

Want to see one of the most beautiful places that you might ever go? Then a trip to Yosemite National Park is in order.

Want to see some of the largest living things on earth? Then you want to see the redwoods or the sequoia trees.

Want to do other theme parks? You've got a lot to choose from, mostly in Southern California starting with Six Flag's Magic Mountain (a bit north of LA, a roller-coaster lover's paradise), Universal Studios in LA, Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland / Disney's California Adventure in Buena Park and Anaheim south of LA, then Legoland in Carlsbad north of San Diego, and finally Sea World in San Diego itself. There are also a couple of theme parks in Northern California.

If you have 7 or 8 days to do non-Anaheim things, you could choose at least two of the above. But without knowing anything about you, really, telling you which one of these is right for you is difficult.

By the way, although its slightly outside of California, a lot of visitors head to Las Vegas as well, for its gambling (of course), world class entertainment and amazing nightlife, and from there might do a day or overnight trip to the amazing Grand Canyon.

There's also Death Valley, one of the warmest places on earth and very unique desert scenery.

Thanks MachThree - appreciated!!! All sounds fab!!!

Neither of us are huge beach fans, happy to hang around the beach for a day but after a day tend to get bored and we both like to be active.

I was originally thinking LA for 3 days (possibly one day at Universal) , then Anaheim for 7 and then San Diego for 4 days but San Francisco / Las Vega (always wanted to see the Bellagio water fountains) sounds amazing.

Anyone have suggestions on companies who may offer multi trip holidays or is it best to book the flights, hotel, car individually?

Thanks

MachThree What a nice summary of things to do and see in CA. Well written

OP it is best to always do research read the Top questions and come to TA forums with a sample itinerary as it is hard for us to know likes and dislikes. It is best to book your travel separately on the best sites. For example air on the actual carrier , car rental on the main car sites or check rentalcars.com and hotels on their actual website so there is no middle man or broker and confusion. If you look at the Anaheim forum you will see info on hotels in Anaheim, likewise the LA forum has info on where to stay in La and the same goes for San Diego

LA Anaheim and San Diego would be best given you only have a week beyond your Star wars and Disneyland trips

May the Force be with you

I've always preferred booking everything separately -- especially for the cities we've been speaking of since you can get local city tours in LA , SD and SF to get you oriented. You dont need a 24 hour escort

Btw you can fly between LA and Las Vegas or LA and SF or SD and SF or LV and SF in about an hour for cheap. Check southwest.com

In a 14 day trip where 7 are spent in Anaheim, that limits your options for the rest of the time.

I'd choose between a drive up the CA coast to San Francisco and maybe a day in wine country or heading to Las Vegas for a few days with maybe a couple of days in San Diego.

With the 7 days left after Anaheim, you don't have time for both Las Vegas and San Francisco if you are driving. You could do it flying, but you'd miss so much in CA doing it that way.

Splack, apologies if this is obvious and sounds patronising (it's not meant to be) but if you haven't done so then it would be worth using Google Maps to look up where these places are - and how far apart they are.
