We are visiting family in Livermore, Ca. and would like to consider spending a few days in Yosemite on Sept 26-28. Is it impossible to get lodging fairly close to the park at this late date?

Can you suggest any?

We will have a car.

Also any suggestions on beginner hiking trails and suggestions re: the pretty sites to see in a few days without a lot of difficult hiking?

It is still a popular week-end in September but at this point you should be able to get lodging close to the park.

It will take some work.

Check first to see if you can get lodging in the valley floor - best for first time visitors.

Best reference is the Yosemite National Park web site for details about how to do this

If issues check next Yosemite West

After that nearby places to check would be Groveland, California from the western 120 entrance (this is most likely the entrance you will use on your drive from Livermore)

or if you drive through Toulumne Meadows you could stay on the eastern side in Lee Vining, June Lake Loop area, or Mammoth Lakes.

There are others - also check the Yosemite National Park Trip Advisor web page

Easy walk would be Camp Curry Parking lot to Happy Isles

Hi Gina

There are some Trip Reports and suggestions of activities on the TripAdvisor page for Yosemite National Park. Drive times from various locations to Yosemite Valley are included in the lodging article. Take a peek. Walking on some of the Valley Loop Trail might be nice in September. You don't need to hike/walk all of it for a great Yosemite Valley experience.
